I read some advice before booking our first cruise last year The cabin was fine, we had How much does it cost to go on Aurora?
DAY 1 - Friday 20th October- Southampton Our first experience of a 2 night cruise and back-to-back cruise all in one First impressions were of a beautiful ship with lots of wood, marble and chrome.
This impression stayed with me throughout the cruise and made me think of how an elegant club would look.
Service on board was Jan Lovely sized ship - not too big. Find a Cruise. Read More. I am a safety-minded ok, neurotic mom of two kids.
I was looking for the safest cruise, and, having never been on cruises before, wanted to start with a short one. Thus Disney, thus 3 days.
Embarkation was I don't understand why people are so afraid of cruises. Cruise ships are probably the safest places in the world. I wish all services ashore were so professional in terms of Covid prevention.
Before boarding the We went for our 25th anniversary and had the absolutely most spectacular time of our lives. The food was phenomenal.
One day the chef made pork adobo especially for us. He was from the Philippines and found out my We chose this cruise as we were going to Australia and wanted to visit New Zealand whilst we were in that part of the world.
So we went to Brisbane to board the ship and first of all it was a fiasco at the port, I took this cruise because it was a rock n roll cruise.
The problem was the Moody Cruise staff. It was one of our most memorable holidays visiting many of the Italian Islands and We had taken cruises in the Norwegian water 3 times in the past albeit all during warmer climes!
Decided to take one in winter just to experience the winter wonderland of Norway and it's elusive Check in was speedy with no problems.
We arrived at the terminal at The cabin A deck 11 was ready by 1pm with the cases already there, so we The cruise I most enjoyed was a winter cruise on the aurora.
The staff in Southampton were friendly and very helpful, checking in is hassle free and relaxed. We were welcomed on board by friendly Good journey to Southampton with no queues to enter the port.
Went straight through check in process and onto the ship and into our cabin with no delays whatsoever. We also had a wonderful cabin steward called Socorro who kept everything spick and span and made sure we always had whatever we needed.
It was also a handy place to grab a bite from the late-night buffet after a night in one of the onboard bars. The Medina is lovely, very elegant and ambient.
The menu is varied, and I never struggled to find something delicious for breakfast or dinner. Afternoon tea is also served there, which is the perfect way to warm up after a morning spent exploring a chilly port.
The Aurora has three swimming pools, including an indoor pool, plus some lovely hot tubs. Masquerade was our late-night haunt, because this is where the DJ is usually stationed and the bar staff are good banter.
The Beach House is the more casual, family-friendly eatery serving steaks and hearty meals that would appeal to the whole family. Their sizzling dishes are a nice change to the usual a la carte.
The small plates and in particular the surf and turf were some of the best meals we had during our cruise. During the day, there were exercise classes, quizzes, interesting speeches, movies in the onboard cinema… the list goes on.
Part of the fun was circling everything we wanted to do. I may have told mum off for never putting me in stage school after watching one performance….
Definitely up my street! If he had gone for an hour beginning at 8am we would have been very late to breakfast and we tended to go to the main dining room for breakfast each morning and I don't remember getting there at 9am.
I would certainly advise anyone not to have a cabin under the gym if it can be avoided. Don't worry, it was port days that were affecetd, but the preparations started early 6am or so.
I can't remember the cabin number, but it was a cabin above the large lifeboats that are used for tenders, not the smaller ones.
I doubt all cabins are affected, just those which have the davits directly below them. We have booked an inside on C deck midship and on the plans there is a big void above us on B deck and behind us on C deck.
Does anyone know what this is? It is the prison cells where they keep unruly passengers, stowaways and the more eccentric members of the entertainment team Good luck We have often seen crew members appearing out of doorways in these areas, so my best bet would be crew staircases and storage areas.
Being at the entrance to the lift lobby you will get a lot of passing trade, but I doubt this will be an issue.
Selbourne we had C last month on Aurora and did get noise on the one morning of tendering at Sorento. I think any cabin towards the aft of the ship will hear the davids but it hasn't put us off booking on C deck as the rest of the time it is quite and near the centre lifts which is convenient for getting most places.
It will be like home from home! Perhaps you should ask for a detached cabin with no neighbours Update on gym on Aurora. I've been complaining for several years about the 8am opening time.
It's now open about 7, but you are asked not to use the treadmills or free weights before 8am. People do though. So perhaps avoid cabins immediately underneath; midships B deck port side.
I think you will be fine. The onboard entertainment was superb too - especially the Headliners' shows. All of the entertainment crew made sure we had fun and we enjoyed spending time with them and the friends we made at the quizzes and line dancing.
Some of the people who go on these cruises seem to like nothing better than to find fault and to moan about anything and everything - my only complaint would be far too many old and miserable English people.
DONE P AND O CRUISES BEFOR BUT THINK THIS SHIP IS THE POOR RELATION OF THE FLEET. WE HAD CABIN C NO ONE TOLD US THIS WOULD BE NOISEY,AFTER FOUR DAYD THE NIGHT SUPERVSOR INFORMED US IT WAS FROM THE CURZON THEATRE,THE BAND,NEW YEARS EVE NO SHOW INSTEAD THEY PUT ON A FILM.
DECK PARTY,RUBBISH,BAND COULD NOT CONNECT EQUIPMENT. WE OBSERVED PARTY FROM 2ND LEVEL,AFTER ONE AND A HALF HOURS NO WAITED HAD BEEN NEAR US TO ASK IF WE WANTED A DRINK.
JUMPING ON THE STAIRS,CHANGING SEATS,NO I AM NOT A CHILD HATER WE HAD FIVE OF OUR OWN. DIRTY DECK AREAS,DOORS SECURED ALL THE TIME,SUN BEDS AND DECK CHAIRS SECURED SEEMED TO BE A LACK OF DECK CREW.
My wife and I loved our first cruise and look forward to another. The crew were excellent as were the waiters in Alexandria especially Clive and Vinay.
Our only grouse was the fact that having paid for an outside cabin with a balcony C we were unable to enjoy sitting out on it as the people in cabins both sides of us smoked liked chimneys.
We therefore had to keep our Patio door closed as their smoke invaded our cabin!! They definately deserved good recompense, all of them.
Despite the major breakdown and consequent hold up in Auckland, the Aurora is a fine seaworthy ship, taking the heaviest seas with aplomb.
It is a very clean ship indeed and the staff could not have been better. The Captain was first class juggling all sorts of conflicting demands with good grace.
